Job Description and Duties

Will Consider Junior Engineering Technician

Under supervision of the Area Construction Senior Transportation Engineer and with guidance from the lead Resident Engineer, the incumbent performs various technical field and office tasks related to transportation construction. Responsibilities include collecting engineering data, sampling construction materials, performing materials testing, coordinating with contractor personnel, and managing construction documentation. The role involves inspecting construction work for compliance, preparing reports, and assisting in contract administration tasks such as calculating quantities, processing change orders, and estimating progress payments. The technician also inspects asphalt and concrete plants and monitors safety and quality standards on site.

Eligibility is determined by the Transportation Engineering Technician / Junior Engineering Technician exam score. If you are not currently eligible, you must be on the state examination list to qualify. To apply, click here and search by classification title.

Desirable Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, on uneven ground, and handle physical tasks including lifting up to 40 pounds. Capable of working indoors under artificial lighting.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing workloads, travel requirements, and flexible hours. Strong organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills. Ability to resolve issues diplomatically and develop cooperative relationships. Knowledge of highway and bridge construction methods, materials, and equipment, as well as computer applications relevant to transportation engineering.
• Proficiency in mathematical calculations, decision-making, safety evaluation, and report preparation. Computer experience is preferred.
