Job summary

Louisiana DOTD is seeking an Engineering Technician to support field engineering and project execution. The role involves earthwork quantity checks, preparing estimates, assisting field engineers, and maintaining material inventories. Requires basic computer skills (Excel, Word) and ability to read emails in Outlook.

Appointments are probational or promotional with a 40-hour work week. Salary is paid hourly, with a base rate per level starting at $14.00/hour plus a $2.00 optional pay per hour.

Qualifications

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Computes and checks earthwork quantities, computation sheets, cross sections, related field books, benchmark forms.
• Generates partial and final estimates, final plans (As-Builts), and final change orders.
• Assists field Engineers when they are shorthanded in the field.
• Keeps accurate inventory (quantity and quality) of materials used by contractors.
• Specialized knowledge: read and send e-mail using Outlook; working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Site Manager.
