Job summary

The City of Carlsbad seeks an Engineering Technician for the Public Works Department, Utilities Division, to support GIS mapping, records research, and the preparation of engineering drawings updating water, wastewater, and recycled water systems.

The successful candidate will coordinate with engineers and field staff, maintain engineering records, and update GIS asset data to support CIP and capital projects.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop and ability to read final maps and plans.
• Basic methods of research, statistics and report presentation.
• Ability to organize, analyze, and summarize data.

Responsibilities

• Prepare maps, exhibits, engineering drawings, plans and estimates for water and wastewater projects.
• Perform CAD drafting using AutoCAD for distribution systems and sewers.
• Update GIS database with city assets and print custom maps/spreadsheets.
• Coordinate with suppliers/contractors for quotes and data collection.
• Assist staff with meetings, minutes, and records management.
• Inspect materials and ensure conformance with plans and standards.
• Respond to public inquiries and review permits and plans.
