Scientific Drilling is looking for an Engineering Technician I or II to join our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude and experience or interest working with electronics or equipment containing electronics. The Engineering Technician should be able to work under specific direction and general, more open-ended guidance and be willing to ask questions and make suggestions to improve work practices and product quality. The candidate should be willing to learn new skills and equipment to improve individual/team capabilities, grow career, and contribute to team success.

The Engineering Technician will work in our Research and Development Department and is expected to perform the essential duties listed below. Candidates must have authorization to work in the United States.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work in multi-disciplinary team environment with mechanical engineers, electronic engineers, manufacturing engineers, production staff, and other technicians
  • Support the engineering group with assembly, documentation, and test of engineering prototypes
  • Perform work safely by utilizing and/or helping to develop appropriate safety controls
  • Assemble, test, troubleshoot, and repair electronic and/or mechanical components parts, equipment and systems
  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or engineering instructions for assembling electronics, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components
  • Use multimeters and oscilloscopes to measure amperage, voltage, waveform, electrical output and input at specific operating temperature to analyze parts performance
  • Use hand tools or soldering iron
  • Document assembly and test steps to assist engineers in writing assembly and test instructions
  • Record data on testing techniques, equipment, or specifications to assist engineers in writing failure reports
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment and tools in work area
  • Adhere to and improve safety standards
  • Manage workstation and practice good housekeeping techniques
  • May be required to work overtime
  • Pursue every job with drive and determination
  • Use logic to solve problems with effective solutions
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the needs of the business
  • Travel domestically or internationally may be required, up to 10%

  • Manual dexterity and ability to use common hand tools

  • The ability to use correct soldering tools and techniques
  • Ability to meet all SDI/ATC safety requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with managers and peers, both written and verbally
  • Adhere to established Company procedures and policies, work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings

Education, Experience, Certification, and Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • 2+ years in electronics and/or mechanical assembly and troubleshooting
  • Experience reading schematics, blueprints and/or technical drawings
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Outlook) or equivalent

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Electronics or equivalent course work
  • Experience testing products for extreme temperatures or vibrations
  • Experience with Enterprise or Manufacturing Resource Planning System (ERP/MRP)

Work Environment, Physical Job requirements and PPE:

Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include but not limited to computers and related equipment, calculators, copiers, fax machines, telephone and vehicles. Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to, safety glasses, hardhat, reinforced toed shoes, FRC coveralls, gloves, and ear plugs or muffs.
