Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Technician I in Guilford County to support engineers with construction inspection, materials testing, project surveying and regulatory compliance. Daily duties include documenting project operations, preparing material reports and performing field calculations.

Candidates must be able to lift heavy samples for concrete tests, operate a motor vehicle legally, and maintain required certifications such as QMS Asphalt,

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• If there are no qualified candidates remaining in the applicant pool who meet the minimum Education and Experience or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position, the agency may consider for this position a trainee who does not meet the minimum requirements.
• In accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order 303, our agency supports second-chance employment for individuals who were previously incarcerated or justice-involved.

Responsibilities

• Inspect for compliance with contract documents, standards and specifications.
• Test materials and perform construction calculations.
• Review plans and analyze engineering-related data; perform construction survey/layout.
• Keep diaries on project operations and document pay records.
