Job summary

The Long Beach Utilities Department is seeking three Engineering Technician I – NC positions in the Gas Engineering Division. Work is performed in person at the Gas Campus in Long Beach, CA. Candidates should have drafting exposure and basic geometry, algebra, and trigonometry skills.

Desirable familiarity with CAD/CAM and GIS. This at-will, part-time role offers a path to develop city utility design and field coordination experience.

Qualifications

• High school, college or technical classes in geometry, algebra and trigonometry.
• Drafting experience: 2 years in civil or engineering drafting, or six college drafting units with 1 year of civil/engineering work.
• Equivalent training and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Lay out and prepare drawings of streets, structures, sewers, gas and water utilities.
• Draw traces and updates maps; read engineering sketches and notes.
• May conduct field surveys and assist in cost estimates.
