Job summary

AAON, Inc. in Longview, TX is seeking an Engineering Technician I to provide entry-level technical support for engineering, testing, manufacturing and product development. You will assist with equipment setup, product testing, documentation and assembly.

This role develops technical skills under close supervision while learning HVAC systems and manufacturing processes. You will help with test data, records, and reports, assist with prototype builds, and maintain lab areas.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with technical coursework in HVAC, electronics, or related field.
  • 0+ years of experience in technical, manufacturing, or engineering support roles.
  • Preferred: technical education in HVAC systems, manufacturing operations, or engineering laboratories.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, work instructions, and verbal directions.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, measurement devices, and basic testing equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the setup, operation, and maintenance of testing equipment and laboratory systems.
  • Support assembly of HVAC components, prototypes, and test fixtures according to procedures.
  • Record test data accurately and maintain technical documentation and records.
  • Assist engineering and technical staff with product testing, inspections, and validation activities.
  • Perform routine measurements, inspections, and evaluations using basic testing equipment.
  • Support troubleshooting by gathering data and aiding problem identification.
  • Follow engineering procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Maintain work areas, tools, and equipment in a clean and organized manner.
  • Assist with prototype builds and engineering evaluations.
  • Support inventory management of lab supplies and test equipment.
  • Participate in technical training and development opportunities.
  • Assist with preparation of reports and engineering records.

Engineering Technician I

The Engineering Technician I is responsible for providing entry‑level technical support for engineering, testing, manufacturing, and product development activities. This role contributes to organizational objectives by assisting with equipment setup, product testing, documentation, and assembly activities. The position works under close supervision while developing technical skills and knowledge of HVAC systems, manufacturing processes, and engineering standards. The role serves as a foundation for building technical expertise and supporting product quality, innovation, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the setup, operation, and maintenance of testing equipment and laboratory systems.
  • Support assembly of HVAC components, prototypes, and test fixtures according to established procedures and instructions.
  • Record test data accurately and maintain technical documentation and records.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED with technical coursework, certification, or training in HVAC, electronics, manufacturing technology, mechanical systems, or a related field.
  • 0+ years of experience in a technical, manufacturing, or engineering support role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred: Technical or vocational education in a related field; exposure to HVAC systems, manufacturing operations, or engineering laboratories.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, work instructions, and verbal directions.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, measurement devices, and basic testing equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, processes, and equipment.
Essential Functions
  • Follow technical instructions and perform routine tasks accurately.
  • Show strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Identify and communicate basic issues or discrepancies.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Use manual dexterity to handle tools, equipment, and small components.
  • Apply visual acuity for inspecting parts, assemblies, and test results.
  • Stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the workday.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Work safely around machinery, equipment, and testing systems.
Work Environment

Perform work primarily in laboratory, manufacturing, and testing environments. Regular exposure to production equipment, HVAC systems, and testing equipment. Exposure to noise, temperature variations, dust, and industrial conditions. Frequent interaction with engineers, technicians, and production personnel. Compliance with all company policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. This role is classified as a Safety Sensitive Position, requiring adherence to all safety protocols to ensure a safe and secure work environment.
