Job summary

The City of Fort Worth Water Department's Capital Delivery Division seeks an Engineering Technician I to support the in-house design group. You will transform survey data into designs and assist with drawings, specs, and cost estimates for water and wastewater projects you help implement for the Fort Worth community.

The role requires interpreting plans and maps, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with engineers while engaging with residents, contractors, and consultants as needed.

Qualifications

$19.74 - $24.67/hr. | $41,050 - $51,313 annual compensation

The City of Fort Worth Water Department's Capital Delivery Division is seeking an Engineering Technician I join its In-House Design Group. This position is an excellent opportunity to use your technical, drafting, and problem-solving skills while supporting water and wastewater infrastructure projects that directly serve the Fort Worth community.

The selected candidate will work closely with professional engineering staff to prepare designs, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates. The ideal candidate can interpret engineering plans, specification manuals, and water and sewer maps while maintaining accurate engineering records.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• Valid Class "C" driver's license and acceptable driving record
• Ability to pass Drug Screen and physical

Preferred Qualifications

• Three or more months of experience using AutoCAD or Civil 3D
• Associate degree in a technical or related field
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word
• Experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

The Engineer Technician I Job Responsibilities Include

• Transform survey data and field notes into accurate designs and drawings for engineering and planning projects
• Assist engineering staff with preparing designs, construction drawings, technical specifications, and project cost estimates
• Review plans for compliance with City standards and accepted construction practices
• Provide technical drafting, design, and project support to the In-House Design Group
• Communicate with residents, contractors, and consultants regarding applicable procedures and guidelines
• Conduct project site visits to collect measurements and verify existing field conditions
• Maintain accurate and organized engineering drawings, plans, and project records

Working Conditions and Physical Demand

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking and repetitive motions.

Light Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
