Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Construction Inspector I to monitor construction activities and verify contractor compliance with plans, specifications, safety requirements, and City standards for water and wastewater infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED; Valid Class C driver's license; Within 1 year of employment, obtain Class D Water Distribution certification from Texas; Pass HPE and drug screen.

• Collect potable water samples for laboratory testing to ensure water quality and safety.
• Collaborate with inspection team across multiple projects; document locations of underground appurtenances.

Salary Range: $24.67-$30.83/hr. ($51,308 - $64,135 annual compensation)

The City of Fort Worth Water Department’s Capital Delivery Division is seeking a detail-oriented Construction Inspector I to help ensure the quality and integrity of the City’s water and wastewater infrastructure. Working as part of a collaborative inspection team, the selected candidate will monitor construction activities and verify that contractors comply with approved plans, specifications, safety requirements, and City standards.

This position offers an opportunity to work in the field, support essential infrastructure projects, and directly contribute to reliable water and wastewater services for the Fort Worth community.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Valid Class “C” driver's license
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, within one (1) year of employment, a Class D Water Distribution certification from the State of Texas.
• Must pass the City of Fort Worth Human Performance Evaluation (HPE) prior to job placement and a drug screen

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Availability to work overtime and respond to call-backs on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
• Completion of relevant Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) training courses.

The Construction Inspector I job responsibilities include:

• Monitor assigned construction projects and maintain accurate daily records, including preparing partial and final contractor payment estimates.
• Collect and deliver potable water samples to the laboratory for bacteriological testing to help ensure water quality and safety.
• Collaborate with inspection team members by providing coverage and support across multiple construction projects.
• Partner with in-house design and GIS staff to accurately document the locations of underground bends, valves, and other appurtenances during installation.

Physical Demand

Medium work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
