Main Duties & Responsibilities
Summary/Objective:
The Engineering Technician isresponsible for assembling components and parts to create finished productsaccording to technical specifications and quality standards. The role involvesworking with various hand tools, power tools, machinery, and sometimesspecialized equipment to assemble and test products. The Engineering Technicianensures that all assembly processes are completed accurately, efficiently, andin compliance with safety and quality guidelines.
On-Site: This role is required to be on-site at the Commerce, CAlocation.
Key Responsibilities:
Assemblyand Production:
- Assemblecomponents, subassemblies, and finished products based on workinstructions, blueprints, or engineering drawings.
- Perform mechanical, electrical, or electronic assembly tasks as required by the product type.
- Usehand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers) and power tools (e.g.,drills, pneumatic tools) to complete assembly tasks.
- Ensureproper alignment and fit of components during assembly, adjust asnecessary.
QualityControl:
- Inspectparts and assemblies for defects or damage before and after assembly.
- Conductfunctional and visual quality checks to ensure the finished product meetsspecifications and quality standards.
- Testassembled products to ensure they function properly, identifying andaddressing any issues or defects.
Testingand Troubleshooting:
- Performtests on assembled products to verify performance, including electrical,mechanical, or software-based tests as required.
- Troubleshootand diagnose assembly issues or malfunctions and resolve them in a timelymanner.
- Recordresults of tests, inspections, and troubleshooting steps, reportingfindings to supervisors or engineers when necessary.
Documentationand Reporting:
- Completeproduction logs, assembly checklists, and quality inspection forms.
- Documentany deviations from assembly procedures or product specifications andreport them to management.
- Maintainaccurate records of materials used, work completed, and any changes toassembly instructions or procedures.
Maintenanceand Housekeeping:
- Maintain workstations, tools, andmachinery in clean and safe working conditions.
- Ensureall equipment is properly calibrated and maintained, notifyingsupervisors of any malfunctions or required repairs.
- Followestablished safety procedures and wear appropriate protective equipmentwhen necessary.
Collaborationand Communication:
- Workclosely with other team members, engineers, and supervisors to meetproduction goals and timelines.
- Communicateeffectively with team members about assembly processes, issues, andprogress.
- Assistin training new assembly personnel as needed.
- Followinstructions from engineers and supervisors carefully to meet exactspecifications and production goals.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
HighSchool diploma or equivalent (some positions may require a technicalcertificate or associate's degree in a relevant field).
Experience:
- 0-2 year of prior experience in an assembly or manufacturing environment ispreferred.
- Experiencewith hand tools, power tools, and assembly machinery is a plus.
TechnicalSkills:
- Abilityto read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and assemblyinstructions.
- Familiaritywith measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers) and testing equipment.
SoftSkills:
- Strongattention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality products.
- Abilityto follow detailed instructions and work independently.
- Goodproblem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve assembly issues.
- Strongcommunication and teamwork skills.
Certifications(Optional):
- Forkliftcertification (if required for handling large parts or materials).
- Certificationsin manufacturing or assembly processes, such as IPC or Six Sigma, may bebeneficial.
Physical Requirements:
- Abilityto lift, carry, or move materials and components (up to 35 lbs).
- Prolongedperiods of standing, bending, and repetitive motions may be required.
- Manualdexterity and coordination for using hand tools and assembly equipment.
Work Environment:
- Engineeringtechnicians typically work in manufacturing plants, warehouses, orproduction facilities.
- Thework environment may involve exposure to machinery, electrical systems,and other technical equipment.
- Safetyprocedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), mustbe always followed.
- Theposition may involve working in teams or independently depending onproduction needs.
Compensation
In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the expected pay range for this position is $27/hr to $31/hr.
Compensation can vary depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for extra incentives like equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses.
