  • Ability to work independently in field environments with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel locally and regionally (up to 10%).

Position Description & Qualifications

Field Engineering Technician – Public Safety Systems. Serco is hiring a Field Engineering Technician to support U.S. Navy Public Safety Systems (PSS) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (NSA Bethesda). This role supports mission-critical electronic security and physical protection systems including access control, surveillance, and perimeter barrier infrastructure that protect personnel, facilities, and operational readiness.

This position operates within a stable long-term U.S. Navy / DoD mission support environment under an established federal contract.

Job Responsibilities

This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic security and public safety systems including CCTV and video surveillance systems, access control systems and card readers, intrusion detection and alarm systems, mass notification and emergency alert systems, Access Control Points (ACP) and Entry Control Points (ECP), and vehicle barrier systems including hydraulic gates, crash‑rated barriers, and electromechanical bollards. Work includes preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of electronic and electromechanical systems in active operational environments. The technician will also document maintenance actions, coordinate parts replacement, and work directly with Navy and installation personnel to ensure system availability and mission readiness.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have

Additional Desired Experience And Skills
  • Experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:
    • Military electronics maintenance or technical maintenance roles, physical security systems such as CCTV, alarms, and access control systems, Access Control Points (ACP) and Entry Control Points (ECP), vehicle barrier systems including hydraulic gates, bollards, and crash‑rated perimeter security systems, low‑voltage electrical systems, or field service technician roles in military, aircraft, airport, industrial, or other mission‑critical environments.

Candidates with experience in comparable DoD, federal, military, or large-scale commercial security environments are encouraged to apply. Relevant experience may include electronic security systems, CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, perimeter security, or vehicle barrier systems, along with transferable technical skills, certifications, and hands‑on maintenance training.

Salary range: The hourly amount for this position can be found at the top of this posting. This role is covered by the Service Contract Act. For positions on this contract, we will pay the prevailing wage rate for the location in which the employee is working, as determined by the Department of Labor and the Wage Determination (WD). The wage rate will vary depending on the locality. Additionally, you will receive Health and Welfare Benefits based on the WD for the contract.
