Job summary

Serco Inc. is seeking an Engineering Technician to support the US Navy Global Sustainment contract, based in Boise, Idaho. You will work on on-site and remote SME system support, perform diagnostics, testing, and maintenance to ensure mission-critical security and safety systems operate reliably.

The role requires US citizenship, an active DoD Secret clearance or eligibility, and a strong background in electronics, electromechanical systems, and field service. Travel up to 50% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED with at least four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance.
  • Four+ years in system diagnostics, troubleshooting and repairs in field operations.
  • Two+ years autonomous work experience with minimal supervision.
  • Experience diagnosing electronic, hydraulic, and electromechanical systems; reading schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Write SOPs that are well-designed, testable, and efficient.
  • Provide on-site and remote SME system support to field engineers worldwide.
  • Conduct software analysis, programming, testing, debugging, and maintenance.
  • Identify production and non-production issues, develop solutions, and implement changes.
  • Respond to corrective and preventive maintenance calls and adhere to SLAs.

Serco supports the US Navy as a prime for their Global Sustainment contract maintaining Public Safety Systems globally across 117 Navy installations. Our team maintains and manages the hardware and software across 30 legacy and baseline systems supporting Emergency Management and Physical Security missions.

You will be part of a large sustainment team that works closely with the customer and other Serco teams to deliver quality service to Navy customers. The team has been recognized by the Navy and the industry for their outstanding contributions to the program.

In this role, you will:
  • Write well-designed, testable and efficient Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Provide on-site and remote Subject Matter Expert (SME) system support to field engineers across the globe.
  • Conduct software analysis, programming, testing, debugging activities and maintenance.
  • Identify production and non-production application issues, develop solutions, and implement necessary changes.
  • Respond to corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance trouble calls.
  • Ability to adhere to contract service level agreements (SLA).
To be successful in this roll, you will have:
  • US Citizenship
  • An active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain or currently hold an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED with a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience
  • A minimum of four years of practical experience in system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs within field operations.
  • At least two years of autonomous work experience, demonstrating the ability to make technical decisions with minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with industry-standard concepts, practices, and procedures, including:
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting electronic, hydraulic, and electromechanical systems
  • Reading and interpreting technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals Implementing safety, security, and compliance protocols in commercial, military, or governmental settings
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues
  • Accurately documenting maintenance activities, repairs, and corrective measures
  • Ability to travel CONUS/OCONUS as needed (up to 50%)
Additional desired experience and skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Master’s degree with a minimum of one year of relevant professional experience
  • Proficiency with one or more of the following systems or technologies is required. Candidates are not expected to have experience with all listed items but should demonstrate relevant and transferable technical skills.
  • Access controlled gates (vehicle and pedestrian)
  • CCTV and video surveillance systems o Automated Vehicle Gate (AVG)
  • Programable Logic Controller (PLC) o Electronic Security Systems (ESS) or access control platforms
  • Card readers and access control logic o Vehicle barriers and bollards (hydraulic and electromechanical)
  • Mass Notification / Emergency Alert Systems o Alarms, intrusion detection systems, and sensors networks
  • Emergency Operations Centers (EOC) or Dispatch Centers
  • General electronics troubleshooting, maintenance and repair
  • Aircraft maintenance or support systems (highly transferable experience)

Salary range: The hourly amount for this position can be found at the top of this posting. This role is covered by the Service Contract Act.For positions on this contract, we will pay the prevailing wage rate for the location in which the employee is working, as determined by the Department of Labor and the Wage Determination (WD). The wage rate will vary depending on the locality. Additionally, you will receive Health and Welfare Benefits based on the WD for the contract.
