The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking an Engineering Technician to support inspection of steel, precast, and prestressed fabrication plants for bridges and infrastructure. You will verify material sampling, inspect layouts, and ensure compliance with project standards.
You will also document inspection results, assist in training junior technicians, and maintain records to support quality and safety across Louisiana projects.

The Engineering Technician position supports higher-level technicians in performing structural fabrication inspections and are assigned to steel, precast, and prestressed fabrication plants to inspect structural members used in construction of bridges and other State infrastructure projects. These fabrication plants are located throughout Louisiana and neighboring states, with occasional assignments involving plants located elsewhere in the United States. Advancement through the Engineering Technician training series is based on required experience, completion of structured training courses, and satisfactory work performance.
The position is located in Section 40, Construction, and reports to the Engineering Technician 7.
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
Compensation: This position receives a premium pay of $2.00/hour for hours actually worked.
Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
