Job summary

Renesas, a leading embedded semiconductor solutions provider, is seeking a skilled lab engineer to support design, test and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical systems. Based in the San Jose area, you will work on analog/digital tasks and leverage lab tools to troubleshoot and optimize tests.

The role requires 4–6 years in a lab, strong communication skills, and hands-on experience with testing equipment, Altium, and Python automation.

Qualifications

  • Associate of Science in Electrical/Electronic Engineering required.
  • Self-motivated and conscientious.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of analog/mixed-signal design and lab troubleshooting.
  • Understand and follow industry standards of test for analog/mixed signal IC devices.
  • 4-6 years of lab experience.
  • Proficient with bench lab equipment (power supplies, function generators, multimeters, oscilloscopes).
  • Experience assembling system level evaluation boards.
  • Familiar with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with schematic/layout EDA software (Altium) a plus.
  • Experience writing Python to automate lab bench equipment via GBIP/USB.
  • Knowledge of I2C/SPI protocols a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supports design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical systems.
  • Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment.
  • Assists in determining methods to remedy malfunctions.
  • Assists in the design, construction, test and check-out of test equipment.
  • Uses testing equipment including oscilloscopes, signal generators and related apparatus.

Job Description

Supports engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry or specialized test equipment. Applications may include analog, digital and RF systems. Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions. Perform operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment. Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Assists in the design, construction, test and check-out of test equipment. Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.

As a skilled specialist, completes tasks in creative and effective ways. Works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions. Normally receives little instruction on daily work, general instructions on newly introduced assignments. May provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel. Typically requires a minimum of 4 - 6 years of related experience.

Working/Environmental Conditions; Physical Effort:

Requires prolonged manual dexterity with hands. Requires visual acuity and the ability to read and interpret written instructions, diagrams, etc. Noise level in work environment is low.

Qualifications

Candidate must possess a minimum Associate of Science (AS) degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

Candidate should be self-motivated and conscientious.

Candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Candidate should have a good knowledge of analog / mixed signal design and lab troubleshooting skills.

Candidate must understand and follow industry standards of test for analog /mixed signal IC devices.

Required Skills: 4 - 6 Years experience working in a lab.

Proficient with electronic bench lab equipment (power supplies, function generators, multi-meters, oscilloscopes).

Experience in assembling system level evaluation boards.

Familiar with Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point).

Experience with using Schematic/Layout EDA software (ie. Altium) a plus.

Experience writing programming code (ie. Python) to automate lab bench equipment in GBIP/USB communication a plus.

Knowledge of I2C/SPI communication protocols are a plus.
