Job summary

Renesas is seeking a Sr. Staff Applications Engineer for the HiRel product group in the United States. You will support analog products, perform device characterization, and help define new products for the space market. Strong Python, Verilog/FPGA, and SPICE/IBIS modeling knowledge is required.

You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team, document datasheets and application notes, and engage with customers during technical discussions and field support. A bachelor’s degree in EE is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
• 7–10+ years in Applications and/or Systems Engineering in Analog IC development or circuit design.
• Strong analog/mixed-signal design knowledge and lab troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency with lab equipment (power supplies, function generators, multimeters, oscilloscopes).
• Experience writing Python to automate lab bench equipment (GBIP/USB).
• Familiarity with schematic/layout concepts; Altium preferred.

Job Description

Sr. Staff application engineer for position in HiRel product group. Primary responsibilities will include supporting existing analog products as well as new product developments for the space market. Products supported include: Precision Op-amps, Instrumentation Amplifiers, Voltage References, Precision ADCs, Battery Management Systems (BMS), Analog Switches/Multiplexers, Current Sources and Drivers, Isolators, and Serial Interface (i.e. RS-422, CANBUS, I2C). Programming experience with Python, Java, and/or C languages as well as knowledge of Verilog coding with FPGAs a plus. Knowledge of using and troubleshooting PSpice models.

• You will be part of an engineering team responsible for device characterization, datasheet and application note documentation, and customer support.
• Work in a multi-disciplinary New Product Development engineering team to help define, evaluate, characterize, and document new product developments with the goal of bringing products to the marketplace.
• Engage with potential customers in support of FAE or Marketing / Sales visits or conference calls to help refine their application needs into deliverable product features for future product definitions.
• Support customer needs as they implement our products into their hardware systems via email, conference calls, or on-site visits.
• Participate in global industry conventions as a presenter.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Applications Engineering position will be responsible for three main functions: Device Characterization (50% of time): You will work with a very talented team of Engineers to perform various lab tests for the characterization of the different products. Prepare the validation plan and compile validation reports upon complete of bench testing/characterization. It is important to understand how the parts are tested to be able to understand their performance when assisting customers. This knowledge will aid in setting up the customer’s exact configuration for verification and characterization of a customer’s issue. Documentation (20% of time): You will utilize FrameMaker for generating and editing Data Sheets and then work with the Technical Documentation to publish them. You will be expected to keep accurate lab notes (software of your choice) and document any test procedures for future reference. As you progress in your learning, you will be expected to generate and publish Technical Briefs, Application Notes, Customers Responses, and possibly Articles. Customer Support (20% of time): You will work with marketing and sales to facilitate the design-in of our products as well as provide technical assistance to address customer questions and analyze field returns. You will train Field Application Engineers on products and demonstrations systems to enhance sales channel effectiveness. New Product Definition (10%): Work with Marketing, Customer, Design and Product engineering teams to help define new products.

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS: Need for candidate is time sensitive and therefore preferred to be a US citizen or have a green card.

Candidate must possess a minimum bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

Candidate should be self-motivated and conscientious.

Candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Candidate must have good presentation skills.

Candidate should have a good knowledge of analog design and lab troubleshooting skills.

Candidate must understand and follow industry standards of test for ICs.

Required Skills: 7 to 10+ Years in Applications and/or Systems Engineering role in Analog IC Development or Circuit Design Industry.

Proficient with analog and mixed signal designs.

Proficient with electronic bench lab equipment (power supplies, function generators, multi-meters, oscilloscopes).

Experience in Schematic/Layout design tools and switching power supply layout concepts (Altium preferred).

Familiar with Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point).

Experience writing programming code (i.e. Python) to automate lab bench equipment in GBIP/USB communication a plus.

Experience modeling circuits (SPICE and or IBIS) is desired but not mandatory.
