Job summary
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) District 58 – Unit 170 in Franklin Parish seeks an Engineering Technician I–IV to assist engineers in drafting, design, and survey tasks. You will use CADD and related software to produce complex drawings and prepare contract proposals for district projects.
On-the-job training is provided. A high school diploma or GED is required, and candidates should be prepared to learn DOTD standards and procedures in a busy design office

The overall function of this position is to be responsible for assisting a professional engineer and/or higher level engineering technicians in the performance of drafting, design, and survey work. The incumbent will use engineering-related software programs to plot and draft complex engineering or survey drawings. They will also prepare contract proposals and contract documents. On-the-job training is provided. Knowledge of basic computer software is required.
The overall function of this position is to be responsible for assisting a professional engineer and/or higher level engineering technicians in the performance of drafting, design, and survey work. The incumbent will use engineering-related software programs to plot and draft complex engineering or survey drawings. They will also prepare contract proposals and contract documents. On-the-job training is provided. Knowledge of basic computer software is required.

- Thinking Critically: The ability to analyze information objectively, identify connections across sources, and form logical, well-supported conclusions.
- Using Data: The ability to collect, analyze, and use data to generate insights and inform decisions.
Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

- Assist professional engineer in drafting, design, or survey work.
- Utilize a thorough knowledge and understanding of Department procedures, policies, standards, and specifications in the drafting or designing of construction plans.
- Apply DOTD engineering policies and procedures to normal work situation in the District Design Office and/or in the field.
- Use CADD and other engineering-related software programs to complete engineering drawings and/or survey.
- Prepare contract proposals and contract documents for more complex projects let at the District level.
This position may be filled as probational, job appointment, detail to special duty, voluntary demotion, or promotion.
This Position may be filled as an Engineering Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.
- Engineering Technician 1 -$14.00/hour with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
- Engineering Technician 2 -$16.03/hour with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
- Engineering Technician 3 -$18.35/hour with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
- Engineering Technician 4 -$21.00/hour with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
