The City of Suffolk is seeking a skilled para-professional in drafting to support the Public Works Department. This role involves GIS activities, public engagements, and managing transportation data, requiring strong civil engineering principles and a solid background in technical education. Ideal candidates will have relevant certifications and over three years of experience.
Under general supervision, performs advanced para professional drafting work. Employee must exercise initiative and independent judgment in ensuring that necessary work and accompanying paperwork is performed in a timely manner. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with developers, contractors, and the general public. Reports to the Division Manager.

Qualifications include graduation from a two-year college or technical school in a related field, with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent training and experience. A valid driver's license is required.
For Traffic Engineering, certifications such as VDOT Intermediate Work Zone, IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level II, VDOT Paving & Marking, IMSA Sign & Paint Technician Level II, and IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector are desirable or required within specified timeframes.
Knowledge and skills required include principles of civil engineering, municipal engineering objectives, survey systems, laws and regulations, use of engineering tools, data analysis, report writing, effective communication, mathematical proficiency, plan reading, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
