Job description

Duties
  • You will perform a variety of routine duties in support of professional engineers and engineering technicians.
  • You will assist engineers and technicians in preparing work procedures, which sequence work and/or testing and provide explicit instructions for inspections, connection of temporary systems and/or testing of equipment.
  • You will assist engineers and technicians in reviewing inspection data such as inspection reports and deficiencies.
  • You will assist engineers and technicians in preparing changes to specific technical procedures, both locally developed or detailed technical requirements, established by higher authority.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to climb ladders and/or scaffolding.
  • You will work in small and/or confined spaces.
  • You will work onboard ships.
  • Veteran’s preference does not apply when selecting individuals under this specific hiring authority.
Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector supporting engineering functions for a unit or team such as assisting in fact‑finding or research; utilizing mathematical and scientific principles to perform simple tasks; and applying basic or commonly used rules or procedures of engineering to assist higher‑graded engineers or technicians.

Education
  • Two years of post‑secondary study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics; OR
  • A combination of education and experience as described above that equates to one year of experience.
