Job Title: Senior Software Test Engineer – Sensors Test Engineering
Job Description

The Sensors Test Engineering team in Burnsville, Minnesota is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the definition, design, development, troubleshooting, and integration of innovative test software for commercial and military sensor products in a high-tech aerospace manufacturing environment. In this 1-year contract role, with the potential for full-time hire upon successful completion, you will serve as an expert individual contributor supporting production, collaborating closely with engineers, technicians, and operators to ensure robust, reliable test solutions for complex electronic systems.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the research, design, development, and testing of software solutions and networks that support sensor production and test systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day technical issues involving software and electrical devices on the production line, ensuring minimal downtime and high product quality.
  • Provide strategic guidance to engineering teams on design concepts, requirements, and best use of test equipment and coding techniques across test engineering.
  • Design and review major components or significant portions of functional test software, documenting and presenting findings and recommendations to the team.
  • Develop and refine processes, procedures, and best practices for test software design and development in a manufacturing environment.
  • Present project status, technical information, and design review materials to peers, internal leadership, and customers in a clear and professional manner.
  • Adapt machine and equipment design to factory and production conditions, ensuring that test systems integrate effectively with manufacturing workflows.
  • Design software to communicate with and control electrical equipment, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic applications.
  • Lead the life cycle development of test software and test systems, from concept and requirements through implementation, validation, and maintenance.
  • Identify opportunities to modernize test solutions by conducting independent research and analysis, and propose improvements to equipment, software, and processes.
  • Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team to solve complex problems in manufacturing and test system design.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering strategies and technical roadmaps for Senior leadership, aligning test engineering capabilities with long-term business needs.
  • Author and maintain test procedures and test cases for manufacturing equipment and test systems, ensuring thorough validation and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Perform software testing and equipment testing to verify functionality, reliability, and performance of test solutions.
  • Support validation activities for hardware and software, including integration of LabVIEW, Visual Basic, C#, and other programming tools into test platforms.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), such as Software Engineering or Computer Engineering, and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or an advanced degree in a related field with at least 4 years of experience; or, in the absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience designing, developing, and testing software solutions for manufacturing or production test environments.
  • Proficiency in programming with Visual Basic (VB), with the ability to develop and maintain test software for complex electronic systems.
  • Experience with LabVIEW programming for test automation and data acquisition.
  • Hands-on experience with software-controlled test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators, power supplies, and thermal chambers.
  • Strong background in software testing, validation, and test case writing for manufacturing and production test equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting software and hardware issues on production lines, including electrical device and equipment problems.
  • Ability to function effectively with multiple tasks and projects and to adjust priorities based on changing business needs.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, and operators and present technical information to diverse audiences.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Advanced understanding of LabVIEW and C# programming for test systems and automation.
  • Familiarity with RF and digital electronics and how components interact within complex systems.
  • Experience working in an aerospace manufacturing environment and familiarity with AS9100 quality standards.
  • Knowledge of standard avionics buses, including MIL-STD-1553, ARINC, CAN, RS-485, RS-232, and IEEE-1394.
  • Experience with application lifecycle management and Agile project management tools such as JIRA.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a hands-on mentality, with a strong desire to understand system-level interactions and improve test solutions.
  • Experience developing engineering strategies and technical roadmaps that support long-term manufacturing and test objectives.

Work Environment

This role is based in an engineering and production environment in Burnsville, Minnesota, supporting high-tech aerospace sensor manufacturing. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering, operations, and test teams on the factory floor and in lab settings, using software-controlled test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators, power supplies, and thermal chambers, as well as test systems built with Visual Basic, LabVIEW, and C#. The position is structured as a full-time, 1-year contract with the potential for conversion to a permanent role based on performance and business needs. The environment emphasizes collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement, with exposure to advanced aerospace technologies, rigorous quality standards such as AS9100, and modern Agile project management practices. Standard professional engineering attire is expected, appropriate for working in both office and manufacturing areas.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $46.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
