Job description

Job Title

Engineering Technician

Job Description

The Engineering Technician provides hands‑on technical support for manufacturing production lines and serves as an advanced escalation resource for complex equipment issues. This role diagnoses and resolves mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automation‑related problems, conducts preventive maintenance and training, and collaborates with equipment manufacturers when specialized support or modifications are required. The Engineering Technician supports process optimization by implementing equipment upgrades, assisting with new‑machine installation and commissioning, and leading engineering projects or production‑line modifications. The role ensures that all changes are properly applied, documented, communicated, and supported through stakeholder training, while maintaining detailed records of maintenance activities and equipment performance in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide hands‑on technical coverage for manufacturing production lines to ensure equipment readiness and uptime across all assigned shifts.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automation‑related equipment issues in a timely and systematic manner.
  • Serve as an advanced escalation resource for difficult production problems and support other technicians and maintenance personnel with troubleshooting.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance activities and deliver training to operators and maintenance staff on proper equipment care and safe operating procedures.
  • Partner with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and machine builders to obtain specialized technical support, implement equipment modifications, and resolve recurring issues.
  • Support process optimization by implementing equipment upgrades and improvements that enhance reliability, efficiency, and product quality.
  • Assist with installation, startup, and commissioning of new automated production equipment and production lines.
  • Lead or support engineering projects and production‑line modifications, ensuring that changes are implemented safely and effectively.
  • Ensure that all equipment changes and modifications are properly documented, including updating maintenance records, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Communicate equipment changes, new procedures, and best practices to operations, maintenance, and other stakeholders through clear written and verbal communication.
  • Prepare detailed troubleshooting and repair reports that describe problems, root causes, corrective actions, and follow‑up recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and downtime events to support continuous‑improvement efforts.
  • Lead or participate in root‑cause investigations to identify underlying issues rather than only replacing failed parts.
  • Collaborate closely with operations teams to support continuous‑improvement initiatives focused on production efficiency, reliability, and quality.
  • Train operators and junior maintenance personnel on equipment operation, basic troubleshooting, and safe work practices.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable safety requirements and internal procedures while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Work a twelve‑hour 2‑2‑3 rotating schedule on assigned day or night shifts and provide consistent technical support across multiple shifts.
Essential Skills
  • Associate degree, equivalent technical training, or a related credential in Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a comparable discipline.
  • At least three years of experience as an Engineering Technician or Controls Technician.
  • Manufacturing experience, with specific exposure to production environments.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills for complex production equipment.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including working with industrial control systems.
  • Strong pneumatic troubleshooting ability for high‑speed production machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, equipment manuals, and engineering documentation.
  • Hands‑on experience performing PLC diagnostics to support automation troubleshooting.
  • Hands‑on experience performing HMI diagnostics to support operator interface and control issues.
  • Experience commissioning or modifying automated production equipment.
  • Experience communicating directly with machine builders or OEM technical‑support teams to resolve equipment problems.
  • Demonstrated experience leading root‑cause investigations rather than only replacing failed parts.
  • Experience training operators or junior maintenance personnel on equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Experience in food‑processing, packaging, filling, aerosol, dairy, beverage, or other high‑speed consumer‑goods manufacturing environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in reliability‑focused maintenance and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
  • Strong documentation skills for recording maintenance activities, equipment performance, and downtime.
  • Comfort working as a key escalation resource for complex production problems across multiple shifts.
