Job summary

XLR8 EMS in San Diego, CA, is seeking an experienced SMT Technician to keep our high-speed assembly lines running smoothly. You will maintain and troubleshoot pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, screen printers, and AOI systems, ensuring maximum uptime and throughput.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years in SMT maintenance, solid knowledge of stencil printing, component placement, and reflow soldering, plus the ability to diagnose from schematics.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of SMT technician experience in high-volume manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of SMT process principles (stencil printing, component placement, reflow soldering).
• Proficient in diagnosing and repairing complex electromechanical systems using schematics and diagnostic tools.
• Familiar with IPC-A-610 quality standards.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot high-speed SMT equipment including pick-and-place, reflow ovens, screen printers, and AOI systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance and calibration on SMT machinery per schedules.
• Diagnose and repair equipment to minimize downtime and maximize line efficiency.
• Monitor SMT line performance, identify root causes of defects, and implement corrective actions.
• Train production operators on equipment use and maintenance procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot high-speed SMT equipment, including pick-and-place machines ( Mydata, MyCronic, Vitronic…), reflow ovens, screen printers, and Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and calibration on SMT machinery according to established schedules and procedures.
• Diagnose and repair equipment for malfunctions, minimizing downtime and ensuring maximum line efficiency.
• Monitor SMT line performance, identify root causes of defects (e.g., solder bridging, tombstoning, misalignments), and implement corrective actions.
• Train production operators on equipment use and proper maintenance procedures.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of experience as an SMT Technician or Equipment Maintenance Technician in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of SMT process principles (stencil printing, component placement, reflow soldering).
• Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems using schematics and diagnostic tools.
• Familiarity with quality standards (e.g., IPC-A-610).
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a technical team.
