Under general supervision, performs a variety of complex sub-professional, technical work in general support of professional engineering activities; may supervise and participate in the activities of a small group of lower level technicians and engineering aids; and performs other related duties as required. Examples of Duties: The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position. Performs a variety of complex sub-professional, technical work in general support of professional engineering activities such as compiling statistics and making cost and volumetric computations to be used in planning and engineering studies; reviews, analyzes and approves water service connection applications, public facilities clearance forms; determines consistency of projects with environmental assessment and policy guidelines; conducts tests and inspections of a variety of construction materials and processes for conformance to specifications and plans; recommends changes on acceptability of construction materials and processes, changes in procedures and operational methods, etc.; works closely with professional personnel in research and development projects, requiring follow through by the incumbent; operates a CAD/CAM system or serves as network administrator in support of engineering operations; may supervise lower level technicians and engineering aids.
Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of specialized work experience
Work experience in one or a combination of the engineering-oriented support functions such as inspection, testing, designing, surveying, drafting, and construction, which required the knowledge of engineering terminology and the ability to use mathematical skills in the solution of engineering-support or engineering problems.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license (Hawaii type 3 or equivalent).
