Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking an Engineering Specialist, Controls to support our Manufacturing team in Livonia, MI. You will lead root-cause analysis for tooling and downtime, implement vision-based controls, and program new automation installations across plants.

The role requires PLC/CNC expertise, AutoCAD ability, and experience with plant monitoring software. You will collaborate with engineers and technicians, perform safety reviews, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 2 or more years of Controls Engineering experience (internship and coop experience will be considered)
• Bachelor's Degree or higher preferred
• Familiar with PLC/CNC, VFDs, Servo, Profinet, ABB and FANUC Robots

Responsibilities

• Coordinate resources to find root cause and fixes, validate remedies
• Handle setup and maintenance of industrial barcode printers
• Design and implement vision control systems and program cameras
• Review cycle times using plant monitoring software and follow up installations
• Program new installations of automation, machinery, material handling and robots
• Read and modify electrical prints and schematics, AutoCAD
• Review risk assessments and evaluate equipment safety
• Assist in training manufacturing personnel and plant electricians
• Maintain familiarity with networks and communication protocols

In this position...

Lead problem solving to assist plants and implementation teams in resolving tooling, equipment and conveyor performance issues and downtime

Responsibilities

What you'll do...

• Coordinate resources to find root cause and fixes, manage and breakdown problems into items that can be validated. Determine proper validation methods
• Handle setup and maintenance of industrial bar code printers
• Utilize sound knowledge design and implement vision control systems. Familiar with different type of vision cameras and their programing software. Continuously evaluate equipment for improvement for quality and delivery
• Use FIS plant monitoring software to review cycle times of equipment, review and follow up project installations
• Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and improvements
• Update program backups for machinery and automation
• Program new installations of automation, machinery, material handling, and robots
• As part of a team, review risk assessments and evaluate equipment safety
• Assist in training manufacturing personnel and plant electricians
• Read and modify electrical prints and schematics, Auto CAD
• Maintain familiarity with OA, CPN/MPN networks and communication protocols for connecting to wireless and wired networks
• Manage installation and maintenance of virus protection software for controls network PCs, perform PC backup disc images and installation of communication and firmware and controls software
• Work overtime and weekends as needed

Qualifications

You'll have...

• High school diploma or GED

• 2 or more years of Controls Engineering experience (internship and coop experience will be considered)

Even better, you may have...

• Bachelors Degree

• Keyence or Cognex camera programming experience

• Promess press experience

• Electrical background (electrician or technician) preferred

• Familiar with PLC/CNC (Siemens/ Allen-Bradley), VFD, Servo, Profinet, ABB and FANUC Robots
• Solid understanding of laser burning
• Demonstrated ability to read blueprints, modify electrical schematics and use AutoCAD
• Validated ability to troubleshoot equipment and continuously evaluate for process improvements
• Experience with conveyor system programming and overhead Gantry
• Solid understanding of networking to include DH+, Ethernet and remote IO
• Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience
• Lean Tools – 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, Value Stream Mapping experience
• Understanding of 8D, FMEA, and DMAIC processes
• Familiar with TQM and Kaizen methods
• One or more years of experience with MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook)
• Knowledge of simulation modeling and visual factory management preferred

This position is a grade 6-8, ranging from $72,480-$162,120.
