Job summary

Ford is seeking an Engineering Specialist in Livonia to lead problem solving across tooling, equipment, and conveyors. You will coordinate resources to find root causes, validate fixes, and implement improvements in automation and robotics.

The role involves vision systems programming, AutoCAD schematics, and collaboration with maintenance teams to enhance quality and delivery. Occasional overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred for advanced roles.
• Knowledge of PLC/CNC controls and robotics is highly desirable.
• Experience with AutoCAD and electrical schematics.
• Lean Manufacturing experience (5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke) beneficial.

Engineering Specialist, Controls

In this position...

Lead problem solving to assist plants and implementation teams in resolving tooling, equipment and conveyor performance issues and downtime.

What you’ll do...

Coordinate resources to find root cause and fixes, manage and breakdown problems into items that can be validated. Determine proper validation methods.

Handle setup and maintenance of industrial bar code printers.

Utilize sound knowledge design and implement vision control systems. Familiar with different type of vision cameras and their programing software. Continuously evaluate equipment for improvement for quality and delivery.

Use FIS plant monitoring software to review cycle times of equipment, review and follow up project installations.

Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and improvements.

Update program backups for machinery and automation.

Program new installations of automation, machinery, material handling, and robots.

As part of a team, review risk assessments and evaluate equipment safety.

Assist in training manufacturing personnel and plant electricians.

Read and modify electrical prints and schematics, Auto CAD.

Maintain familiarity with OA, CPN/MPN networks and communication protocols for connecting to wireless and wired networks.

Manage installation and maintenance of virus protection software for controls network PCs, perform PC backup disc images and installation of communication and firmware and controls software.

Work overtime and weekends as needed.

You’ll have...

• Keyence or Cognex camera programming experience
• Promess press experience
• Electrical background (electrician or technician) preferred
• Familiar with PLC/CNC (Siemens/ Allen-Bradley), VFD, Servo, Profinet, ABB and FANUC Robots
• Solid understanding of laser burning
• Demonstrated ability to read blueprints, modify electrical schematics and use AutoCAD
• Validated ability to troubleshoot equipment and continuously evaluate for process improvements
• Experience with conveyor system programming and overhead Gantry
• Solid understanding of networking to include DH+, Ethernet and remote IO
• Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience
• Lean Tools - 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, Value Stream Mapping experience
• Understanding of 8D, FMEA, and DMAIC processes
• Familiar with TQM and Kaizen methods
• One or more years of experience with MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook)
• Knowledge of simulation modeling and visual factory management preferred

This position is a grade 6-8, ranging from $72,480-$162,120.
