Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. As the Engineering Project Team Lead within the ST&H – Rubber Components team in PSLD, you will meet set goals and contribute technical expertise to projects. You will manage your own development, continuously learning new business knowledge and skills through experience. Strong program/project management and organizational skills are critical for success in this role.

The job involves developing project scopes for rubber components, directing their design and development, and ensuring they meet performance, durability, and cost targets. It includes coordinating resources, overseeing project progress, and resolving issues. The role also supports test bench maintenance, develops new test capabilities, and uses FEA results for validation. Additionally, it requires evaluating manufacturing issues, mentoring team members, and managing multiple projects. Proficiency in technical tools and methodologies, strong analytical and communication skills, and a hands-on approach in a lab environment are essential.

What You Will Do:

  1. Project Scope Development: Develop project scope to address business challenges and opportunities involving multiple functions, organizations, and products related to rubber components.
  2. Concept, Design, and Development: Direct and participate in the concept, design, and development of rubber components, ensuring superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability while meeting cost and delivery targets.
  3. Resource Coordination: Coordinate resources across product groups, manufacturing facilities, and process partners to meet set goals.
  4. Project Oversight: Oversee project progress and costs, communicate status with stakeholders and participating functional areas, and address and resolve problems.
  5. Test Bench Support: Support the repair and maintenance of local test benches, including documenting spare parts.
  6. Test Capability Development: Direct and participate in the development of new or improved test capabilities by collaborating with process partners.
  7. FEA Guidance: Use FEA results to develop test plans and validation activities using local test benches and interpret data to enhance component performance in the field.
  8. Issue Resolution: Evaluate, troubleshoot, define, and resolve issues in the internal manufacturing facility.
  9. Mentorship: Mentor team members to enhance their technical competence in promoting, defining, analyzing, and providing superior technical solutions to business problems.

What You Have (Basic Requirements):

  1. Products and Services: Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.
  2. Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  3. Influencing Through Expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.
  4. Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
  5. Team Management: Knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams based on projects.
  6. Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.

What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Chemical, Materials Science, or a related field.
  2. Previous experience with rubber components with working knowledge on molding processes.
  3. Experience with Lean 6 Sigma and PPAP methodologies.
  4. Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in data analysis and statistics.
