Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a seasoned Product Development Leader to plan and execute development activities, drive cross-functional collaboration, and deliver superior products. You will lead multi-discipline teams across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, marketing, and quality to translate requirements into designs and realizations.

Key focus includes cost reduction, technology integration, lifecycle support, and delivering on schedule, scope, and budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in engineering, business or technical field.
  • 7 years of progressive engineering or product management experience in relevant equipment.
  • 5 years of project management experience in manufacturing of industrial equipment.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional project leadership and full-system releases preferred.
  • Strong ability to balance resources, timelines and quality outcomes.
  • Proven ability to translate requirements into design and realization plans.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute product development activities including new introductions and cost reduction.
  • Provide leadership for projects supporting a Generac business area or product line.
  • Collaborate with product management, engineering, service, and manufacturing leaders.
  • Develop and manage project plans to ensure superior customer products.
  • Lead cross-functional teams with schedules and development plans.
  • Translate requirements into project scope and realization plans.
  • Drive project execution alongside engineering and product management.
  • Deliver projects within schedule, cost, scope, and quality commitments.
  • Achieve target product cost and lifecycle cost targets.
  • Improve development process using milestones and design reviews.
  • Define risk and mitigation plans; conduct contingency option assessments.
  • Foster collaboration to harvest new concepts, technologies, and best practices.
  • Manage make-versus-buy decisions, shipping costs, and bidding processes.
  • Capture lessons learned and communicate best practices.

Job description


  • Plan and execute product development activities, including new product introductions, cost reduction, technology integration, and lifecycle product support

  • Provide leadership and management for projects supporting a Generac business area or product line

  • Work closely with product management, engineering, service, manufacturing operations, supply chain, marketing, quality, IT, and finance leaders

  • Plan and execute product development project plans to ensure superior products for customers

  • Lead teams for new product development projects by creating schedules, building product development plans, and integrating cross-functional activities

  • Translate product requirements into project scope, design, and product realization requirements

  • Lead project execution in collaboration with engineering and product management

  • Execute projects against schedule, cost, scope, and quality commitments

  • Achieve target product cost for Generac and product lifecycle cost for customers

  • Improve the product development process using Generac Development Process milestones and design reviews

  • Define and drive project risk and mitigation plans; lead contingency option assessments and execute mitigation plans

  • Facilitate collaboration to identify and harvest new product development concepts, technologies, techniques, standards, and procedures

  • Manage make-versus-buy decisions, shipping and logistics costs, and bidding processes

  • Identify, evaluate, document, and communicate lessons learned and best practices


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Marketing, or other technical discipline OR equivalent work experience

  • 7 years of progressive work experience in engineering, brand/product management of equipment, machinery, or other powered products

  • 5 years of project management experience in manufacturing of industrial/commercial equipment, machinery, or other powered products

  • Demonstrated Project Management experience with cross-functional teams including full-system product releases (preferred)

  • Advanced ability to deliver results while working simultaneously on multiple projects, balancing resources, timing, and quality outcomes

  • Advanced ability to lead transformation from product requirements into product design and realization plans

  • Ability to influence people and teams who are not all direct reports

  • Advanced team building and leadership skills

  • Strong understanding of engineering technical issues/needs, manufacturing, supply chain, service, customer service, financial, sales, and marketing as related to product design and development

  • Advanced communication skills

  • Self-driven, highly motivated, flexible, and high capacity to learn

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds

  • Occasional travel
