Job summary

Harris Group, based in Portland, OR, is seeking an experienced Engineering Project Manager to lead multi-discipline teams on projects up to $500k in scope. This role combines technical leadership with financial authority and client relationship management.

You will oversee budgets, schedules, proposals, contracts, and QA/QC plans, while mentoring staff and ensuring design integrity across disciplines. Travel up to 20% may be required.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree required; PMP and/or PE certification preferred
• 8+ years in design or process engineering, plant operations or startup and/or construction
• Knowledge of project life cycle and contract basics
• Strong communication, leadership and analytical skills
• Ability to travel up to 20% and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Harris Group is looking for an experienced Engineering Project Managerto be based in ourPortland, OR region. This is an exciting opportunity to manage projects up to $500,000 of moderate complexity for a variety of sectors. We focus on developing long-term relationships with our clients, and projects range from in-plant modifications to major expansions and grass roots facilities. This is a position of financial authority with responsibility for directing and leading multi-discipline project teams. The successful candidate is also proficient at structural, electrical, or mechanical engineering and is excited to continue providing discipline-specific engineering.

The Responsibilities

• Establish and build strong relationships with Harris Group clients, including identifying projects and developing proposals.
• Engage in contract negotiations and reviews.
• Identify, establish, and manage the project plan for each project, including scope, budget, schedule, staffing plan, procedures, QA/QC plan, safety plan, CAD standards and design criteria.
• Provide financial management of the project, including weekly review of project budgets, approving invoices and tracking payments, expediting overdue payments, resolving disputes and changes with client, and making a profit on every job.
• Facilitate and manage communications with the internal and client project team members including meetings, reports and correspondence.
• Encourage and foster teamwork including internal staff, clients, vendors and contractors.
• Mentor staff to promote/develop growth and technical skills and provide feedback for personal development plans.
• Provide discipline design for single discipline and multi-discipline projects.

The Requirements

Degree in Engineering and 8 years minimum experience in design or process engineering, plant operations or start-up, and/or construction.

• Knowledge of the project life cycle.
• PMP and/or PE certification preferred.
• In-depth working knowledge and application of his/her industry sector, including industry-preferred design practices, sector-specific requirements, and the commercial landscape.
• Experience with or desire to develop project management and business development skills
• Strong written, verbal and analytical skills
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
• Basic knowledge of design contracts and risk management.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work and work under pressure to meet deadlines
• Ability and willingness to travel to an off-site location and/or accept client site assignments up to 20% of the year when required.

Benefits

• Salary Range: $125,000-$150,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
