Job summary

Kluber Architects + Engineers seeks a Project Electrical Engineer/Designer to design electrical systems for building projects and work closely with architects, engineers, and consultants. You will apply technical proficiency to design, analyze, and document electrical systems that meet client goals and codes.

You will also manage smaller projects independently and assist with larger projects under senior leadership, contributing to sustainable design and efficiency goals in a collaborative team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical system design and engineering.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, DIALux, SKM Power Tools).
  • Knowledge of NEC, IESNA, IEEE, LEED, and related codes and standards.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with energy-efficient design focus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
  • PE licensure is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design and green building practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development of electrical design solutions from concept through construction documentation.
  • Prepare and present electrical design concepts, layouts, and performance analyses.
  • Collaborate with architects, structural and mechanical engineers to integrate systems.
  • Produce detailed electrical drawings, schedules, and details.
  • Learn or perform load calculations, coordination studies, arc flash analysis, short circuit, voltage drop.
  • Develop technical specs for electrical systems, ensuring code compliance and sustainability goals.
  • Review documents to resolve design conflicts with other building systems.
  • Support site visits, inspections, and coordination meetings to verify installations.
  • Assist in commissioning of electrical systems and client meetings to present proposals.

Description

As a Project Electrical Engineer/Designer, you will contribute to the design and development of electrical systems for building projects, working closely with architects, engineers, and other consultants. You will apply your technical proficiency to the design, analysis, and documentation of electrical systems, ensuring they meet client expectations, code requirements, and project goals. You will also manage and support smaller electrical projects independently and assist with larger, more complex projects under senior leadership.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of electrical design solutions, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, low voltage, and controls systems, from concept through construction documentation.
  • Prepare and assist in presenting electrical design concepts, including system layouts, performance analysis, and 3D models using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Easy Power, aGi32 or similar programs.
  • Collaborate with project teams, including architects, mechanical engineers, and other consultants, to ensure electrical systems integrate seamlessly with architectural and structural designs.
  • Produce detailed electrical drawings, including plans, sections, details, and schedules, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Perform or ability to learn load calculations, coordination studies, arc flash analysis, short circuit and voltage drop calculations.
  • Develop technical specifications for electrical systems and ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and sustainability goals (e.g., NEC, IESNA, IEEE, LEED).
  • Review and coordinate electrical design documents to identify and resolve design conflicts with other building systems.
  • Provide support in site visits, inspections, and coordination meetings to verify system installations meet design intent.
  • Assist in the coordination of electrical system commissioning, ensuring systems operate as designed.
  • Participate in client meetings, assist in presenting electrical design proposals, and support senior team members in managing client relationships.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, electrical design software, and sustainable design practices.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced electrical staff and assist with training and development.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Senior Electrical Engineers or Project Managers.
The Successful Candidate Will Have
  • Proven ability to work independently on smaller electrical projects and collaborate effectively on larger projects under supervision.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present technical information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A solid understanding of electrical systems, building codes, and energy efficiency standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills in designing electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Easy Power or SKM Power Tools, Agi32 or similar).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams and contribute to overall project design.
  • High initiative and willingness to take on new tasks and learn new technologies.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $77k- $94k per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills. This is a good faith estimate and subject to negotiation. Other compensation may include discretionary bonuses, safe-harbor 401K contributions and profit-sharing 401K contributions.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited University/College program.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical system design and engineering.
  • Proficiency in electrical design and analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, DIALux, SKM Power Tools).
  • Knowledge of building codes, electrical design standards, and sustainability practices (NEC, IESNA, IEEE, LEED, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on energy-efficient, sustainable design solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design and green building practices is highly valued.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work at a desk for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel to job sites for site visits, inspections, and coordination meetings as needed.
  • Ability to lift and move materials or equipment as necessary for site evaluations.
  • Ability to observe electrical systems installation and ensure adherence to design intent.
