Job summary

Pioneer Cladding and Glazing Systems, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Lead to oversee project planning, shop drawing creation, and design strategy for building envelopes.

You will mentor staff and coordinate with Production Control, Shop, and Field teams during manufacturing and installation. Applicants should have a technical engineering background with experience in fenestration systems, construction documents, and project management tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management plus 3 years in fenestration systems, or
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or related field plus 8 years of experience, or 10 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate engineering activities for assigned projects, including planning, organizing, monitoring and reporting.
  • Review architectural and structural drawings, interpret project scope and apply engineering principles to oversee shop drawings using CAD software.
  • Contribute to design strategy and resolve issues related to curtain walls, fenestration and architectural elements.
  • Mentor junior staff and support Production Control, Shop, and Field teams during manufacturing and installation.
  • Prepare and maintain Engineering Estimates and Project Status Reports; coordinate with the project management team.
  • Attend client meetings, internal coordination sessions, and subcontractor discussions; record and archive accurate meeting minutes.
  • Review construction documents to develop efficient, cost-effective project strategies and track revisions and impacts on cost/schedule.
  • Manage Engineering RFIs and coordinate responses for timely resolution.
  • Provide dashboard updates and labor tracking to Engineering Manager.

Job Summary

Lead and coordinate engineering activities for assigned projects, including planning, organizing, monitoring, and reporting. Review architectural and structural drawings, interpret project scope, and apply engineering and architectural principles to oversee the creation of shop drawings using CAD software. Contribute to design strategy and resolve issues related to building envelopes, fenestration, and architectural elements such as curtain walls, entrances, windows, coping, and partitions. Mentor junior staff and support Production Control, Shop, and Field teams during manufacturing and installation.

Key Responsibilities
Project Management
  • Prepare and maintain Engineering Estimates and Project Status Reports; store documents per the Engineering Process Manual and coordinate with the project management team.
  • Attend client meetings, internal coordination sessions, and subcontractor discussions; ensure accurate meeting minutes are recorded and archived.
  • Review construction documents (e.g., architectural/structural drawings, specifications, BIM/VDC policies) to develop efficient, cost-effective project strategies. Track revisions and assess impacts on cost and schedule.
  • Manage Engineering RFIs and coordinate responses with the Engineering and Project Management teams for timely resolution.
  • Maintain project tools such as the Engineering Team Lead Checklist and die tracking sheet.
  • Update Engineering team schedules and resource allocations monthly.
  • Develop strategic plans to meet project deadlines and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Ensure accurate time tracking and cost code allocation for Engineering team members.
  • Provide clear documentation and ensure team alignment on project plans and deliverables.
Reporting
  • Provide dashboard updates and labor tracking to Engineering Manager.
  • Deliver detailed Engineering Project Status Reports with explanations as needed.
Analysis & Problem Solving
  • Investigate discrepancies in project documents using industry standards; collaborate on cost-effective solutions.
  • Address schedule delays by developing realistic submittal timelines and corrective action plans.
  • Review Professional Engineer calculations to identify necessary changes in shop and fabrication drawings and proactively catch potential errors.
Team Support
  • Assist with generating, checking, and revising shop and fabrication drawings as needed.
  • Support Production Control, Shop, and Field teams during manufacturing and installation.
  • Research manufacturing-related issues and gather input from other departments to optimize design efficiency.
  • Manage releases using Pioneer RMS software.
Software Proficiency
  • AutoCAD (proficient)
  • Revit, Inventor, Navisworks (working knowledge)
  • Microsoft Office; Microsoft Projects (preferred)

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in Engineering or Construction Management + 3 years in fenestration systems, OR Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or related field + 8 years, OR 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of construction documents and project management tools.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledge of structural and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Proficient in drafting and applying standards.
  • Skilled in AutoCAD; experience with Revit and Inventor preferred.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
