Qualifications

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; college coursework in related fields is desirable.
• Two years full-time equivalent experience in engineering, planning permits, land use, or building regulations or closely related field.
• Possession of a valid California driver's license or ability to arrange transportation for field work when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Provides information and assistance to the public at the counter and by phone regarding project processing, procedures, codes, laws, and ordinances.
• Interprets and applies land use, zoning, subdivision, grading and development ordinances.
• Accepts permit applications and collects fees.
• Researches and responds to public inquiries.
• Reviews proposed plans and permits to determine code compliance.
• Issues permits and approves plans for minor projects.
• Operates department computer systems and updates permit tracking.
• Maintains log books and monitors projects.
• Computes fees for issuance of permits.
• May perform field investigations related to properties.
