Job summary

The Development Services Department's Urban Engineering Division in Fort Lauderdale is seeking an Engineering Technician to review residential and commercial building plans, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal codes. The role includes overseeing the City's permit process and responding to public inquiries while conducting inspections for conformance with approved plans.

Ideal candidates will have at least a year of relevant experience, be proficient in Microsoft Office, and

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
Six months of additional training in Engineering or Construction.
One year of Engineering or Construction experience.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook.
Veterans’ Preference requires DD214 and service-connected disability documents.

Responsibilities

Evaluate construction plans and calculations for compliance with codes and standards.
Assist engineers and project managers with segments of complex projects.
Perform inspections of new construction and existing improvements for code compliance.
Provide written directives for issuing permits for residential and commercial construction.
Answer questions from the public, builders, developers, architects, and engineers about codes and regulations.
Prepare and maintain written reports, plan reviews, inspections, and actions taken.
Respond to inquiries on drainage, utilities, and other engineering matters.
Collaborate with staff to evaluate plans for design compliance.
Performs related work as required.
