Join to apply for the Engineering Manager - Web role at Canonical.

Our customers include top public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders across sectors. The company is founder-led, profitable, and growing, with a globally distributed team of 1100+ colleagues in 75+ countries. Teams meet in person 2-4 times a year in various locations worldwide.

We are hiring a Web Engineering Manager to collaborate across teams, including product managers and engineering teams, to deliver reliable, scalable, and user-friendly experiences for Canonical products. Your primary responsibility is to support and grow your team of web engineers, providing technical leadership and fostering a positive culture. You will influence technical strategy and execution.

Location: Remote in the EMEA region.

The role entails:

  1. Demonstrate sound engineering principles by contributing to your team's goals.
  2. Estimate work, set goals, and meet them.
  3. Design and implement well-tested, documented software using Web technologies or Flutter.
  4. Debug and resolve user issues.
  5. Participate in code and architectural reviews.
  6. Collaborate on technical specifications with community and colleagues.
  7. Contribute to high-quality technical documentation.
  8. Seek improvements in engineering and operations practices.
  9. Deploy and operate team-developed services.
  10. Support product success through technical advocacy.

What we are looking for:

  1. Passion and knowledge in web and software development.
  2. Soft skills: passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, self-motivated.
  3. Strong academic background in high school and university, or an alternative compelling narrative.
  4. Degree in Computer Science or STEM, or equivalent experience.
  5. Proven ability to exceed expectations.
  6. Organized, self-starting, and reliable in delivering results.
  7. Professional interaction with colleagues, partners, and community.
  8. Experience designing and coding high-quality Web technologies.
  9. Experience with Typescript, React, or Flutter.
  10. Focus on accessibility and performance.
  11. Excellent English communication skills.
  12. Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  13. Interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, accountability.
  14. Strong communication and presentation skills.
  15. Result-oriented with personal drive.
  16. Willing to travel twice a year for company events.

Nice-to-have skills:

  1. Experience with container technologies like LXD, Docker, Kubernetes.
  2. Building and maintaining talented teams.
  3. REST API design and governance.
  4. Performance engineering and security expertise.
