Job summary

Topstep LLC is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team within TRM Engineering, the group building trader-facing web experiences, onboarding flows, payments, and internal tooling used daily. This is a technical leadership role focused on the health, delivery cadence, and quality of the team’s systems; hands-on work is welcome but not expected.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience including production systems, integrations, and operations.
• 2+ years of engineering management experience with hiring, direction, coaching, and growth examples.
• Track record delivering complex technical work balancing feature delivery with reliability and investment.
• Experience leading teams that own production systems including on-call and reliability.
• Inclusive, collaborative culture building with psychological safety and learning.
• Technical credibility to guide architecture and trade-offs across TS/Node.js, APIs, and integrations.
• Hands-on with TS/Node.js, modern front-end frameworks (React), and AWS cloud infra (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD).
• Excellent communication across technical and non-technical audiences; data-informed with measurable metrics.
• Comfort leading through shifting priorities and balancing capacity with business needs.

Responsibilities

• Run the team: set direction, hiring, capacity planning, and day-to-day operations.
• Lead and develop the team: 1:1s, feedback, performance reviews, and growth coaching.
• Own technical quality: architecture guidance, tech strategy, third-party evals, reliability focus.
• Drive reliability: engineering process, on-call health, incident follow-through, availability.
• Own delivery cadence: scope via discovery, estimates, prioritization, and release quality.
• Partner across the org: with Product, Design, QA, Support, and infra; report progress and risks.
• Own team health and effectiveness: collaboration with dependent teams and stakeholders.
