Job summary

Briggs & Stratton, based in Milwaukee, WI, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead an engine testing engineering group within the Power group. You will plan, coordinate, and drive initiatives in new technologies, process improvements, and cost reduction for engine programs.

You will mentor product engineering teams, coordinate research and testing, and interface with customers on design and manufacturing issues, while ensuring regulatory compliance and on-budget delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent education and experience.
• Seven years of engineering experience.
• Prior management or supervisory experience of a unionized workforce.
• Knowledge of engineering, testing and manufacturing processes related to product/manufacturing.
• Ability to solve problems with diverse groups of people.
• Strong interpersonal, written communication and problem solving skills.
• Well-developed leadership and planning skills; manage multiple projects.
• Fundamental knowledge of statistics and reliability concepts.
• Strong team building skills.
• Ability to coordinate activities and focus on major project resources.

Responsibilities

• Support and guide product engineering teams in ongoing development within their assigned area.
• Supervise and coordinate product research, testing, design and development if applicable.
• Promote the New Product Development process and ensure consistent use.
• Interface with customers regarding design, manufacturing, and quality issues.
• Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements.
• Report project status, budgets, and customer satisfaction data.
• Develop and initiate new technologies, process improvements, and cost reductions.
• Propose business solutions related to product safety initiatives, planning and supplier relations.
• Perform managerial responsibilities for a unionized team: hiring, coaching, budgeting, performance management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
