  • Ability to review engineering designs, specifications, and cost estimates using sound technical and business judgment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team through technical guidance, coaching, and performance management.
  • Review and approve engineering specifications, drawings, design documentation, scope assumptions, and cost estimates.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet customer requirements, company standards, safety regulations, and project objectives.
  • Support field operations by investigating escalated technical issues, identifying root causes, and developing practical engineering solutions.
  • Coordinate corrective actions and communicate technical resolutions effectively with internal teams and customers.
  • Manage equipment safety certifications and regulatory compliance in collaboration with certification agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage engineering priorities, resource allocation, schedules, workloads, and project risks.
  • Promote engineering best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure successful project execution and customer satisfaction.

Salary: $125,000–$150,000 per year (DOE) + Bonus

About The Role

A leading company specializing in automation and material handling solutions is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager (Japanese Bilingual) to lead and develop its engineering team supporting advanced automated systems.

This position will oversee engineering activities, ensure technical quality and compliance, support field operations, and drive continuous improvement across engineering processes. The Engineering Manager will collaborate closely with Project Management, Manufacturing, Sales, Quality, Field Service, and customers to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective engineering solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional who combines strong technical expertise with leadership skills and is comfortable working in a bilingual Japanese-English business environment.

Key Responsibilities

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of engineering experience, preferably in one or more of the following industries:
    • Semiconductor
    • Material Handling
    • Factory Automation
    • Industrial Equipment
    • Automation Systems
  • Previous experience as an Engineering Manager, Lead Engineer, Project Engineering Leader, or in a similar technical leadership role.
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment safety certification processes and regulatory compliance.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Project Management, Functional Safety, or other relevant technical certifications are a plus.
Preferred Technical Knowledge

Experience or familiarity with the following is preferred:

  • Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Software, and Systems Integration
  • Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS)
  • Engineering drawings and technical specifications

Work Environment
  • On-site position in Hillsboro, Oregon.
  • Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Collaborative, cross-functional environment involving Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Project Management, Field Operations, Sales, and customers.
