Job summary

Scale AI is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Frontier AI Infrastructure team in Public Sector Engineering in Washington, DC. This is a 50/50 role combining coding with people leadership, including hiring, onboarding, and career development for engineers.

You will own the inference layer, drive technical direction, and collaborate with Product, Deployed Engineering, and government stakeholders to meet contract commitments while maintaining security and scalability across cloud-native

Qualifications

• 1–2+ years of direct people management experience leading software engineers.
• Security clearance: at least active Secret clearance, willing to upgrade to TS/SCI with CI Poly.
• Willingness to stay hands-on in code while leading a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and grow a team of engineers, owning hiring and performance development.
• Set technical direction and quarterly priorities for the inference layer.
• Run sprint planning, on-call rotation, incidents, and postmortems.
• Translate customer/mission requirements into roadmaps with cross-functional teams.
• Represent the team in customer engagements and vendor escalations.
