Job summary

Superhuman seeks an Engineering Manager to lead the Formula Engine team within Superhuman Docs. You will own the formula system that glues data across building blocks for millions of user-built applications.

The role covers language design, parsing, execution planning, optimization, and runtime performance, leading 5+ engineers. You will collaborate with product, design, and platform teams to deliver a fast, reliable experience.

Qualifications

• Has 3+ years of engineering management experience leading teams of 5+ engineers.
• Brings deep technical experience in at least one: language implementation, query planning/optimization, compiler design, or high-performance runtime systems.
• Shipped and operated systems at scale with emphasis on correctness and performance.
• Demonstrates strong performance engineering instincts: profiling and bottleneck elimination.
• Experience managing teams that own foundational infrastructure and API design considerations.
• Ability to define strategy, make tradeoffs, and ship in fast-moving product areas.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across teams and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of 5+ engineers, providing mentorship and career development.
• Own the technical direction for the formula engine from language design to execution planning and runtime performance.
• Drive improvements to formula execution to support scale as documents grow.
• Build and refine evaluation and benchmarking frameworks for formula performance and reliability.
• Shape the formula language to improve expressiveness and usability for users.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and platform teams.
• Balance foundational investments with pragmatic delivery and incremental performance wins.
• Define strategy for evolution of the formula engine as Superhuman Docs expands.
