Job summary

Southern Systems International (SSI) in Memphis, TN, seeks an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team in delivering complex material handling and industrial automation projects.

You will provide technical leadership, manage resources, mentor engineers, and ensure high-quality, on-time deliverables while collaborating with Project Management, Fabrication, Field Operations, and Executive Leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of engineering experience in industrial equipment, material handling, or related industries.
• Experience leading engineering teams or supervising technical personnel.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software: Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the daily operations of the engineering department.
• Plan, prioritize, and assign resources across multiple projects.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and designers.
• Review deliverables for quality, completeness, and compliance.
• Collaborate with Project Management to establish schedules.
• Coordinate with Fabrication and Field Operations for manufacturability.
• Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Drive continuous improvement of standards, processes, and design practices.
• Establish and maintain engineering procedures and design standards.
• Support customer meetings with technical leadership and expertise.
• Participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and performance management.
