Job summary

LaunchDarkly is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Data Platform team and shape the high-throughput data backbone powering key products. You’ll guide a technically deep team building and operating real-time and batch data systems using Go and Python, with Kinesis, Airflow, Athena, Iceberg, and related AWS technologies.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years leading backend or infrastructure teams.
• Experience owning high-throughput, reliability-critical production systems such as ingestion pipelines or large data stores.
• Strong distributed-systems fundamentals and ability to guide technical tradeoffs with senior engineers.
• Proven ability to partner with Product Management to translate business goals into engineering plans and reliable estimates.
• Track record of coaching engineers, including performance management and mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a backend engineering team with coaching and career growth.
• Own delivery, correctness, and resilience of Data Platform production systems.
• Partner with Product Management to scope, estimate, and sequence roadmap work.
• Act as primary communicator for Data Platform with leadership, partner teams, and customers.
• Drive operational excellence: reliability, observability, cost, incident response, on-call health.
• Build team norms to promote collaboration and reduce silos.
• Participate in hiring to grow the team and raise engineering bar.
