Job summary

LaunchDarkly is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Data Platform team, shaping the high-throughput data backbone driving Experimentation, Metrics, and Data Export. You will guide real-time and batch analytics across Go/Python stacks, partnering with Core Engineering and product teams to deliver fast, reliable data services.

You’ll own production pipelines, influence architectural choices, and grow a highly skilled team focused on reliability, observability, and cost efficiency across

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years in people leadership.
• Experience owning high-throughput, reliability-critical production systems such as ingestion pipelines, streaming or batch data stores.
• Strong distributed-systems fundamentals and ability to guide technical tradeoffs with senior engineers.
• Proven ability to partner with Product Management to translate business goals into engineering plans with reliable estimates.
• Track record of coaching and developing engineers, including performance management and mentorship.
• Strong communication across time zones and cross-functional teams.
• Experience with Go or Python and related data tech (Kafka, Kinesis, ClickHouse, Airflow, Athena, Iceberg, Elasticsearch, Terraform).

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a backend engineering team with coaching and career growth.
• Own delivery, correctness, and resilience of Data Platform production systems.
• Partner with Product and consuming teams to scope, estimate, and sequence roadmap work.
• Serve as primary liaison for Data Platform with engineering leadership, partners, and customers.
• Drive reliability, observability, cost control, incident response, and on-call health.
• Foster collaboration, reduce silos, and promote engineering engagement.
• Participate in hiring to grow the team and raise engineering standards.
