Job summary

Virta Health is seeking an Engineering Manager for Data Engineering to lead the data foundations that support care delivery and AI capabilities. You will manage both data engineers and analytics engineers, shaping the next growth stage and ensuring reliable pipelines, platform tooling, and governance.

You will guide dbt models, semantic definitions, and LookML, working with stakeholders to translate needs into a focused roadmap and ensure data quality across migrations and analytics products.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering management experience leading data engineering and analytics engineering teams.
• Strong judgment across data pipelines, cloud warehouses, SQL/data modeling, orchestration, and BI/semantic layers.
• Experience leading data platform or analytics migration with data validation and stakeholder adoption.
• Ability to translate business needs into a focused roadmap without a dedicated PM.
• Proven track record building reusable capabilities and coaching diverse engineering teams.
• Experience hiring, coaching, and managing performance in remote/asynchronous environments.
• Clear communication with both technical and business audiences; tie priorities to outcomes with evidence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow both data engineering and analytics engineering teams.
• Complete the data and analytics migration, including BigQuery medallion architecture and Looker Core rollout.
• Own discovery, priorities, and delivery by collaborating with Engineering, Analytics, Finance, Commercial, and Clinical teams.
• Expand self-service by building reusable ingestion/transformation patterns and tooling.
• Develop analytics engineering quality with reusable dbt models and LookML.
• Advance data capabilities for agents and ML with governed datasets and semantic context.
• Improve reliability and governance through ownership, testing, alerts, and cost management.
• Improve team processes using AI-assisted development and automation where it reduces toil.
