Job summary

Stepful, Inc. in New York, NY seeks an Engineering Manager, Data to own the data function—pipelines, warehouse, transformation, and BI tooling—shipping analyses while managing a small team of data analysts and engineers.

You'll write production SQL and Python, define core metrics across enrollment, engagement, and outcomes, and partner with Growth, Product, Operations, and Finance to drive decisions in a high-growth, mission-driven EdTech environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of data experience across analytics and data engineering.
• Experience leading a team of three or more.
• Expert SQL and Python with modern data stack tools.
• Strong ability to connect data work to business outcomes.
• Experience designing experiments in a high-growth environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of three data analysts & engineers.
• Own data platform end-to-end: pipelines, warehouse, transformation, and BI tooling.
• Define and maintain core metrics across enrollment, engagement, completion, certification, placement and business performance (CAC, LTV, retention).
• Build dashboards and self-serve analytics for all teams.
• Partner with Growth and Product on experimentation (design, instrumentation, analysis of A/B tests).
• Deliver deep-dive analyses shaping strategic decisions and budget allocation.
• Stay hands-on: write production SQL and Python, review team work, tackle hard technical problems.
• Establish data governance and quality practices that scale with the company.
