Reports to: Sr Director of Systems Engineering
Location: Indianapolis or Evansville Indiana
Pay: up to $155,000
Our client has a Systems Engineering team looking for an experienced Controls Engineering Manager who will serve as a senior member of the Engineering management team, responsible for managing a team of control system engineers.
This position will drive and participate in technical strategy, innovation, product delivery, and continuous improvement. The candidate must possess a range of technical, leadership skills, and business acumen.
Essential Functions:
- Communicate and interface frequently with customers' engineering teams to discuss capabilities, applications/requirements, and coordinate project activities.
- Possess broad knowledge of controls, power conversion, and their applications across industries, equipment, and customers.
- Demonstrate strong project management skills to estimate costs, labor, resources, and timelines.
- Collect and translate voice of the customer into actionable plans and results.
- Stay updated on current and emerging industry technologies and trends.
- Conduct competitive analysis, including pricing and product comparisons.
- Assist in developing product strategies and roadmaps.
- Develop product requirements and functional specifications with stakeholders.
- Excel in problem-solving and project management.
- Develop and maintain engineering processes and standards.
- Prioritize engineering projects and manage the project pipeline.
- Promote the company and engineering services to customers, partners, and others.
- Partner with Business Development and Product Development to define product and growth strategies.
- Coordinate and execute new product introductions through Stage Gate or commercialization processes.
- Manage departmental budgets and project costs effectively.
- Work efficiently to serve customers and meet corporate goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Power, Software, Physics, or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Master’s degree in Science or Business Administration preferred.
- Over 10 years of engineering experience.
- Over 15 years of industry and related experience.
- At least 10 years in electric machines, drives, controls, and systems.
Additional Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of drives, controls, and rotating electric machines.
- Experience with industrial/machine control theory and mining machine systems.
- Experience managing product lifecycle of systems and products.
- Ability to identify customer needs and translate into detailed product specs.
- Proven success in formulating and implementing product roadmaps.
- Good business acumen and ability to align engineering goals with business objectives.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
- Experience with engineering tools like simulators, modeling, virtual prototyping, and statistical analysis.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to promote a positive company image and understand complex instructions.
- Initiative, judgment, decision-making skills, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to travel, including internationally, as needed.
