Job summary

Remitly, a global money transfer company, is hiring an Engineering Manager for the Card team in our Arlington, VA office. You will lead a group of engineers responsible for features end to end, APIs, and services powering card issuance and money movement, in a regulatory environment with a focus on safety and trust.

You will shape engineering culture, recruit and mentor engineers, and work with Product, Design, Analytics, and other partners to drive the roadmap.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 3+ years of engineering leadership, with track record managing teams and delivering complex projects.
• Expertise in at least one backend or full-stack language (Go, Kotlin, Java, TypeScript).
• Experience designing secure, scalable, cloud-based software (AWS).
• Aptitude for applying AI to developer productivity and product features.
• Coaching developers via mentoring, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Strong partnerships with product/design; communicating tradeoffs and product judgment.
• Experience recruiting and growing engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of engineers to design, build, and ship the Card team’s consumer-facing experiences and backend services.
• Partner with product and design stakeholders to prioritize the roadmap and translate strategic ambitions into actionable OKRs.
• Hire and grow the engineering team, recruiting and onboarding experienced engineers.
• Be a role model for our cultural values and mentor engineers in technical skillset, autonomy, communication, and collaboration.
• Ensure engineering best practices, quality, security, and operational excellence across the team, including proactively identifying and resolving risk in a regulated environment.
• Champion safe, effective adoption of AI/agentic coding tools to boost team productivity and product velocity.
• Represent the team in cross-functional planning with Product, Design, Analytics, and partner engineering teams.
