Job summary

BlackSky is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead the Ground & Control Services team responsible for autonomous satellite operations and real-time tasking. You will shape architecture, mentor engineers, and drive end-to-end delivery across ground and space interfaces in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience in distributed, autonomous, or mission-critical systems.
• Minimum 2 years leading engineering teams with formal leadership responsibilities.
• Strong programming background in Go, Python, or C++, with ability to guide architecture.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Ground & Control Services engineering team for autonomous satellite operations and real-time tasking.
• Drive prioritization and planning across GCS projects with evolving objectives.
• Collaborate with operations, flight software, mission planning, product, and leadership to align priorities and system behavior.
• Provide technical direction and architectural guidance for ground station interfaces and mission-critical workflows.
• Improve engineering processes including design reviews, testing, and safety considerations.
• Foster a healthy on-call culture and manage live system incidents and root-cause analysis.
• Oversee roadmaps, resource allocation, and multi-project execution.
• Hire, onboard, coach, and evaluate engineers with a focus on growth and accountability.
• Other leadership tasks to ensure team and mission success.
