Job summary

The New York Times Company in New York City is seeking an experienced analytics leader to head the Analytics Data Products enablement team within the Data Platform. You will orchestrate onboarding workflows, tooling, and data lifecycle standards while partnering with product managers to publish data products across missions.

You will report to the Senior Director of Data Platform, build a high-performing team, and drive strategy for data reliability, budgets, and cloud costs in a hybrid work

Qualifications

• 1+ years of formal people management experience.
• 4+ years building and supporting production data pipelines.
• Experience managing or leading technical teams with diverse skill sets and backgrounds.
• Experience enabling successful collaborations across engineering teams and have a knack for bringing engineers together to achieve shared goals.
• Ability to jump in as needed to assist technically with code reviews, design discussions, and analysis.
• Experience using SQL to transform data and a working knowledge of at least one of: Python, Java or Go.
• Knowledge of relational, columnar, and key-value storage technologies as well as data modeling for analytics.
• Passion for the Times' mission and desire to join us at a moment in history where our data has the power to transform every aspect of creation and practice of journalism

Responsibilities

• Hire, develop, and lead a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and high productivity.
• Own developer experience and tooling (onboarding, CLI, templates, validation, automation) and define and track success metrics such as producer adoption and data reliability.
• Oversee roadmap execution, architectural guidance, technical decisions.
• Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts and a cost attribution model for your team's cloud solutions.
• Partner with product managers and stakeholders to define requirements and manage change while systematically retiring legacy systems.
• Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world
