Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team building AI-powered systems for CoCounsel Tax. You will hire, mentor, and grow backend and AI engineers while partnering with product and design on roadmaps and priorities.

You will help shape the technical direction of agentic tax workflows, scope AI features end-to-end, and remove cross-team blockers to accelerate delivery in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with 3+ years managing engineering teams.
• Track record of leading teams that ship production-grade backend systems at scale.
• Strong technical foundation in backend development and cloud infrastructure; comfortable architecture discussions.
• Experience partnering with PM, Design, and cross-functional leaders to set strategy and execute.
• Excellent communicator; able to set clear goals, give direct feedback, and align stakeholders.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment where priorities evolve quickly.

Responsibilities

• Build and grow the team. Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing group of backend and AI engineers.
• Partner on cross-org engineering hiring to grow the broader CoCounsel Tax organization.
• Drive velocity and engineering health. Improve processes, rituals, code review, and ways of working.
• Set direction with product and design; collaborate on road mapping and ownership.
• Be a thought partner on agentic tax workflows; shape technical direction for tax workflows.
• Scope AI features end-to-end; design and scope AI-driven features with Labs/Research teams.
• Remove friction across the org; resolve cross-team blockers and scale processes.
