OpenAI is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the ChatGPT Search Infrastructure team in San Francisco, guiding architecture and product integration for high-scale search experiences. You will drive platform strategy, build reusable tools, and partner across research, inference, and product groups to ship reliable, low-latency capabilities.

You will manage senior engineers, foster an inclusive culture, and ensure operational readiness with strong observability, testing, and rollout practices

Qualifications

• Experience leading senior engineers on large-scale infrastructure.
• Deep backend infra, APIs, and distributed systems expertise.
• Proven ability to deliver reliable, low-latency search infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for ChatGPT Search Infrastructure.
• Lead and develop a team of engineers with clear ownership and accountability.
• Partner with research and Post-Training to translate model improvements into production experiences.
• Build reusable platforms enabling product teams to independently implement and launch features.
• Uphold high availability, sub-second latency, and scalable systems across the stack.
