Job summary

Anthropic Limited in San Francisco is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Search Platform team. You will guide indexing, retrieval, ranking and serving systems powering Claude and related surfaces.

This role blends leadership with hands-on technical contribution to ensure top‑tier search quality at scale. You will own the platform strategy, collaborate with product, research and infrastructure, and help drive a responsible AI agenda while balancing reliability, latency and cost.

Qualifications

• Significant experience managing engineering teams.
• Direct experience building or operating search systems at scale.
• Hands-on when needed: review designs, dive into relevant data, argue technical points.
• Ability to make product calls when PM is not in the room.
• Track record of running high‑scale, latency‑sensitive systems.
• Strong cross‑functional alignment with product, research and infrastructure teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the team building Anthropic's search platform: indexing, retrieval, ranking and serving.
• Own the strategy and roadmap for the platform and Claude's search needs.
• Own search quality: evaluation, relevance measurement, regression detection and improvements.
• Operate the platform at scale while balancing product traffic with research and training demand.
• Wear the product hat when needed: prioritize search experience and sequence launches.
• Drive cross‑team collaboration with product, research and infrastructure partners.
• Be hands‑on where it matters: design reviews and incident follow‑ups.
