OpenAI is seeking a hands-on engineering manager to lead a team of ~9–10 engineers in the ChatGPT Library effort. You will shape architecture, own the roadmap, and contribute technically when needed to deliver reliable AI-powered experiences.

The ideal candidate blends people leadership with technical decision-making, thrives in ambiguity, and brings startup‑level urgency. You will partner with product, design, research, and infrastructure teams to ship impactful features.

Responsibilities

Lead, coach, and grow a team of ~9–10 engineers with clear accountability.

Set high bar for product quality, reliability, and user trust.
Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture reviews, prototyping, debugging, and coding when needed.
Build systems that persist, retrieve, and use personal and organizational context.
Partner across teams to deliver cohesive end-to-end experiences.
Navigate ambiguity, make pragmatic tradeoffs, and plan for scale.
Hire exceptional engineers and develop technical leaders.
